7 Tips for Getting Healthy Hair without Medication
The winter months can wreak havoc on your hair, but the good news is you don’t have to turn to medication for help! Here are 7 tips for getting healthy hair without medication.
1) Never brush wet hair
Brushing wet hair can lead to breakage and split ends. Instead, gently brush your hair before you get out of the shower. This will help remove any tangles and give your scalp a good massage. You should also avoid using a towel to dry your hair. Wrap it in a t-shirt or another soft material instead.
2) Use a wide-toothed comb or use your fingers
A wide-toothed comb is the best tool to use to detangle hair. Start at the ends of your hair and gently comb through the knots. Be careful not to rip any strands or tug on your scalp too much. If you are using a wide-toothed comb, hold it vertically with one hand and work from top to bottom with the other hand. With your fingers, start at the ends of your hair and work your way up towards the scalp in a gentle upward motion.
3) Get your ends trimmed regularly
This may seem like a no-brainer, but it is important to trim your hair every six weeks or so to avoid split ends and keep your hair healthy. This will also help if you have been coloring your hair because the color will not fade as quickly and the hair color will look more natural.
4) Switch up your hairstyle every once in awhile
Switch up your hairstyle every once in a while to give your hair a break from the same old routine. For example, try long locks one day and a short bob the next. If you don't want to cut it all off, go for a cute pixie or angled bob instead. You can also change up the color of your locks with a hombre fade or give yourself fun highlights by visiting a salon.
5) Get lots of sleep
Getting enough sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your hair. If you're not getting enough sleep, then chances are your hair isn't either. Sleep deprivation will make your hair thin, brittle, and dry. So be sure to get at least 7-8 hours of rest each night to help keep your strands healthy!
6) Add essential oils to your shampoo
Aside from just smelling good, essential oils
are great for giving your scalp a little extra love. For instance, tea tree oil
is great at combating dandruff, while lavender will soothe your scalp and
promote growth.
To integrate these essential oils into your
shampoo routine, add a few drops of the oil to your shampoo or conditioner and
wash like normal. In as little as two weeks, you should start to see benefits!
7) Drink more water
The finest thing you can do for your hair is
use water. Drinking water helps keep hair hydrated and prevents breakage. Plus,
it will make your skin glow! Drink a glass of water with lemon in the morning
to start your day off on a healthy note. Add this one to your daily routine and
drink up!
